Academics
We're pretty sure you can gage a guess into the level of academics at Princeton University, but we're going to further extend your knowledge anyway … since anyone considering this school must love to learn.
As an Ivy League school, Princeton pretty much guarantees you a top-notch education. Students who have attended Princeton rave about the university's faculty. Many professors are famous in their respective fields, yet still take the time to get to know the students they are teaching.
Do not go to Princeton and expect a walk in the park. (If we needed to tell you that, you probably shouldn’t be going to Princeton anyway, if you know what we’re saying.) Just a little insight into what's ahead -- Princeton is one of the only American institutions to mandate a senior thesis. Our advice? Get studying!
Technology
As one of the oldest universities in the United States, Princeton might seem like it doesn’t have a lot to offer technologically. Have no fear -- Princeton is wired and very well-connected. Although computer-lab facilities ("clusters," as they're called) on campus are rarely crowded, students strongly recommend you bring your own laptop. Having your own computer is vital … at least for convenience’s sake. Would you rather write that huge thesis in the library or out on the lawn? Yeah, we thought so.
Housing (On and Off-Campus)
Princeton dorms vary greatly -- some people are satisfied with what they get, others not so much. Sometimes the buildings are well-kept, other times they seem ancient. Freshman year, you’ll get no choice on your housing. Sophomore year, students live in the same vicinity but get to pick their rooms. And you know how upperclassmen at many schools tend to live off-campus? In Princeton, N.J., off-campus life is almost nonexistent. There are nearly no apartment buildings, unless you want to commute 20 minutes. That might be why hardly any Princeton students live off-campus.
